Dr. Paul Ekman, the Psychologist who's work that the now canceled TV Show, Lie To Me was based on conducted an experiment during his studies on Deception Detection. Ekman along with his Associates tested 15,000 people and were able to identify ONLY 50 that they dubbed as, 'Truth Wizards'. These individuals seemed to have the ability to identify without any formal training when people were telling the truth or lying.
Various studies have confirmed that as a whole people are not successful with more than with 50/50 odds in being able to identify whether tell if they are being lied too or not. In fact many of the common assumptions that people assume are accurate cues as to whether people are being honest or deceitful and just plain wrong. And this goes for the pros as well.
